About the science center
The science center became a project of Don and Sue Carcieri in 1999 when they saved the historic Olney House from demolition. The structure had previously been a dormitory for the East Greenwich Academy, which was founded in 1802 and was often referred to as "the heart of East Greenwich."
The majority of high school students in the state of Rhode Island received their education from The Academy at the time, including Don's own parents, who attended the school in the 1930s. The Carcieris wished to breathe new live into the facility and offer science education to the local community.
